Take Up Your Cross

Jesus called His disciples to “deny [themselves] and take up [their] cross and follow Me.”  Did those men experience the gut-check that today’s Christian likely feels when making such a consideration?  It’s a hard proposition in a self-focused culture such as ours to deny ourselves anything – daily necessities to creature comforts – let alone willingly take up a burden, a hardship, a struggle, a challenge in their place.  But the Lord’s call to His followers stands and we must each regularly examine our commitment to that call, seeking after His example to grow in a life of significance that brings good into our homes, workplaces, and communities and glory to His Name.
